The balance is even more pleasant as it was reached despite a rising population. Per capita emissions even sunk about 25.6 percent and went below 8 tons in 2008. Nevertheless, the efforts of Freiburg in climate protection must and will be continued.
In order to reach its ambitious aims, the city increasingly invests in climate protection. Since 2008, an annual 1.2 million Euro share of the concession which the local energy supplier Badenova pays to the city has been destined to additional climate protection projects. Another 2 million Euro out of the "debt relief masterplan" are used for the energetic rehabilitation of public buildings.
In January 2009, for instance, the city implemented a graduated scheme with determined stepstones for the rise of energetic standards for new constructions. The scheme concerns all public building areas as well as private areas in land development plans. With this, the city has indeed implemented a plan for passive house standards in public buildings.
World Premiere: First High Rise Passive HouseFreiburg proudly presents the first high rise building in the world that satisfies passive house standards. At the end of April 2011, new and old tenants moved into the newly renovated multi-storey building in the Weingarten quarter. Renovations took 18 months and have led to a reduction of 40 per cent in primary energy demand for heating, warming of drinking water, ventilation, lighting and household electricity. Research on this model project will continue. |
