|
Covenant of Mayors to host two high-level events in Brussels 30.05.2012 - Every year hundreds of organisations and individuals participate in EUSEW by hosting Energy Day events and activities that promote energy efficiency and renewable energy sources across Europe. The Covenant of Mayors Office is co-organizing two events during the EU Sustainable Energy Week (EUSEW) taking place between 18 and 22 June in Brussels. Sustainable Energy Investments in Cities and Regions On 20 June the Covenant of Mayors Office is co-organizing a high-level policy conference on Sustainable Energy Investments in Cities and Regions. The session will address the Covenant of Mayors initiative as a political instrument for sustainable energy actions and highlight examples of successfully implemented energy action plans. Among the speakers, the mayor of Vaterstetter (DE), Mr. Robert Nidergesäss, will talk about their action plan, how to finance it, and highlight the challenges of the process also from the point of view of the German Covenant Club. Securing long term financing has been identified by the members of Climate Alliance as the most crucial issue related to ensuring the implementation of long term strategies such as Sustainable Energy Action Plans (SEAPs). Covenant signatories meet business On 22 June a session entitled Covenant signatories meet business to convert plans into actions is co-organized by the Covenant of Mayors Office and the European Economic and Social Committee. The session aims at showcasing the private sector’s successful partnerships with European cities and regions and highlighting the role of such partners in the development of sustainable energy action plans. High-level representatives from the European Commission and the European Economic and Social Committee, city officials and the private sector will take part in the debate. Both sessions are open to energy actors from local and regional authorities, energy agencies, policy makers, regional representatives, energy consultants and anyone interested in energy efficiency and renewable energy actions in local communities. Registration is open until 11 June through EUSEW website. For questions, please contact: press(at)eumayors.eu
